Siemens Energy, a German company developing sustainable energy technology, is scaling its presence in the U.S. with a $1 billion investment. The company plans to increase production of grid and gas turbine equipment, and it will create 1,500 highly skilled jobs across various states, with North Carolina at the top of its list.

Siemens Energy is building upon a long-established U.S. presence, having first entered the market in Pittsburgh in 1887. The company now has a workforce of more than 12,000 people spanning 25 U.S. facilities, and it works with nearly 5,000 domestic suppliers to deliver its conventional and renewable energy solutions. Its portfolio encompasses gas and steam turbines, hydrogen-powered hybrid power plants, power generators and transformers.

The company’s plans to expand in North Carolina include increasing manufacturing and servicing for large power transformers and manufacturing gas turbines in Charlotte. The company will produce gas turbine parts in Winston-Salem and expand its grid technology project execution in Raleigh, creating a total of 500 jobs throughout these three locales.

“Siemens Energy has been making things in the United States for more than a century and we are experiencing a once-in-a-generation growth opportunity due to the resurgence of U.S. manufacturing and the growth of artificial intelligence,” Christian Bruch, CEO and president of Siemens Energy, said in a statement. “The current policy environment has contributed to this momentum. The Trump Administration has made energy security, a reliable and resilient grid and growing U.S. manufacturing jobs a priority. This has supercharged the energy demand which is supporting new investments across the energy sector.”

Alongside North Carolina, Siemens Energy has significant expansion plans for sites in Alabama, New York, Texas, Mississippi and Florida.
