Safran, a Paris-based manufacturer of aircraft components, announced its acquisition of the flight control and actuation business at Collins Aerospace, a Charlotte-based company that delivers connected solutions for the aviation and defense industries. Collins’ acquired business will integrate with Safran Electronics & Defense on Aug. 1.

As the aviation sector works to meet decarbonization goals, combining Collins’ hydraulic and mechanical actuation capabilities with Safran’s expertise in electro-mechanical actuation and electronics will enable the conjoined entity to further pursue these ambitions.

The acquisition, valued at $1.8 billion, adds a complementary product to Safran’s existing offerings. Collins’ acquired business encompasses more than 4.000 employees across Europe and other locations, and its flight control and actuation systems are currently active on board 180 platforms. The move expands Safran’s reach and exposure to various industries, including commercial, military and helicopter segments.
