Team Lead – BIRT Report Writing

Main Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of four BIRT report developers, ensuring effective task allocation, progress tracking, and timely delivery.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using the BIRT framework.
• Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate business requirements into actionable reporting solutions.
• Establish and enforce best practices for report design, development, testing, documentation, and version control.
• Review and validate all team deliverables to ensure accuracy, performance, and adherence to business requirements.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions across databases (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Work closely with the VP to provide status reports, manage priorities, and align reporting objectives with organizational goals.
• Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and process improvement within the reporting function.
• Mentor and train team members to build technical proficiency and analytical capability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues, data discrepancies, and report-related problems.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and ensure smooth deployment of reports in production environments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in BIRT report development, including at least 1–2 years in a team leadership role.
• Proven expertise in designing and developing BIRT reports integrated into enterprise or Java-based applications.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases such as MySQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
• Solid understanding of data modeling, ETL concepts, and data visualization best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to lead small technical teams, manage workloads, and ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience reporting to senior leadership.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
• Previous experience in the public sector considered an asset.
• Ability to travel as required.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with BIRT scripting (JavaScript) for advanced logic and customization.
• Familiarity with other BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or SSRS.
• Knowledge of application servers (e.g., Tomcat, JBoss) for BIRT deployment.
• Exposure to Agile or DevOps delivery environments.
