About Us
AMLB is a non-traditional virtual accounting and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) business that enables clients and colleagues to reach their potential. Launched just over 3 years ago, AMLB is growing quickly, serving a portfolio of clients making a real impact in a range of industries from ecommerce to not-for-profit. We act as strategic financial partners that really get to know our clients’ businesses, are relationship-focused rather than transactional, and have built a reputation for delivering proactive advice that unleashes our clients' performance potential.

How we’re different
What does non-traditional mean? We don’t work from a physical office (our clients are from across Canada and we’re there for them when they need us, virtually); we deploy cloud-based technologies and automation as game-changers for our clients and internal firm workflows. And we’re completely paperless. This allows our people to pursue careers in a 100% virtual and results-based practice that focuses on value-added work. You will never spend time manually entering bank and credit card transactions! It also means we do not use hours worked to measure performance. Instead, we’ve established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure impact. Examples of our KPIs are: deliverable time and quality, responsiveness to clients and client satisfaction scores.

We view each team member as having the potential to make a real difference not only for our clients but for each other and the success of our firm. That is why, for each employee, we invest in industry leading tools and training programs, provide a high level of autonomy, encourage the pursuit of initiatives to improve the way we work and provide a coach for one-on-one support from day one to foster development.

One of AMLB’s core values is inclusive collaboration, which means we believe in seeking out different perspectives than our own to make all of us better colleagues and partners. We are signatories to Canada’s 50 – 30 Challenge as well as the BlackNorth Initiative, which together demonstrate our commitment to gender parity and under-represented groups. This is part of our DNA.

The role:
As a Cloud Accountant, you would perform cloud-based bookkeeping, accounting, and analysis for clients across Canada, while also leading strategic initiatives to grow and improve the firm. You would work remotely while reporting to a Director of Cloud Finance Services who prioritizes learning, a collaborative culture and provides mentorship along the way.

If you want to work at an entrepreneurial firm where you will have the opportunity to make a real impact and gain experience using tools that are changing the age-old way accounting is done, you may be a great fit for AMLB.

Performance Profile (Duties & Responsibilities):
- Take ownership of bookkeeping, accounts payable, month-end / quarter-end close, sales tax filing preparation and management reporting responsibilities for a portfolio of clients utilizing a variety of cloud-based software with a focus on quality, timeliness, and alignment to Canadian accounting standards.
- Prepare and maintain payroll and related government remittances/filings utilizing cloud-based payroll software

- Prepare monthly or quarterly financial analysis and reporting, including participation in client discussions via Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams

- Prepare year-end financial statements and supporting working papers including proposed adjusting entries.
- Proactively surface and resolve risks and issues related to timeliness and quality of service to assigned clients

- Enhance sustainability and effectiveness of key processes by recording training videos and creating step-by-step procedures
- Participate in improvement initiatives by identifying process and experience pain points, analyzing root causes and implementing sustainable changes

The ideal fit for our team:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) or equivalent with at least three years of full-cycle cloud bookkeeping or accounting experience using either Quickbooks Online or Xero. This includes experience completing bank reconciliations, using clearing accounts, and completing sales tax filings, payables and invoicing.

- Prioritizes honesty, integrity and confidentiality to develop high-trust relationships with colleagues and clients
- Self-starter who works well autonomously and thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to enhance client and team experiences

- Strong attention to detail and due dates to produce high quality deliverables on time

- Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Teams in particular) and a passion for technology. At AMLB, we use cloud-based software including: QuickBooks Online, Xero, Dext Prepare, Karbon, WagePoint and Plooto

- Demonstrated adaptability and agility to test and quickly learn new concepts and tools

Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive compensation that rewards value added to clients and the firm, including a semi-annual performance bonus

- Industry-leading training program included
- Work from your designated home office as long as you’re meeting client and firm needs. Team members are asked to participate in at least one team meeting each week
- Generous vacation plan and half-day Fridays in August
